Avoid RUN‑TIME STACK overflow

I have a situation in which Nested calls sometimes overflow runtime stack. What compile/runtime settings help? Thanks in advance for your help and insights.

what happened when you googled with  runtime stack overflow

When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,
so that I am sure that the information requested can be reached with a very small effort 8-)
