When I try to use IDCAMS DELETE like the shown below:

DELETE the.gdg.base.file
IF MAXCC = 8 THEN -
SET MAXCC = 0

//*

I get a JCL PREP ERROR:

1 ERROR MESSAGE(S)
.JCPA JCP0429E 'FILE NAME' IS AN INVALID VALUE FOR ...
