VSAM file in FD as IS EXTERNAL.

I have declared VSAM file in FD as IS EXTERNAL .. But getting compikation isaue as IS EXTERNAL Is not valid
So is thwre any COMPILER option needs to change?
Any sugestion?

No, IS EXTERNAL is not a compiler option-dependent feature. It is always available. If you had posted the actual code and error message, we could help you more. As it is, all we can do is tell you that you've coded it wrong somehow. And whether or not the data set is VSAM has no bearing upon the IS EXTERNAL clause.

Thanks Robert. It was to do with a called program. I am not able to reproduce the issue, if I could, will share the details with you.
