How to view vsam files without file manager or File-Aid?

Hi,

My company doesn't have IBM file manager or File-Aid installed. I tried using Print ID(/) command also but in vain. Please tell me if there is any other command to view VSAMs.

Unfortunately, there are no IBM utilities that do really well at displaying VSAM files -- hence the market for File Aid and File Manager. You can use IDCAMS to print the file but the display is not really that human-friendly.

I agree with Robert, however, if DITTO is installed at your site - that might be of help.

I saw DITTO as one of the options. I'll ask around how to use it. I'll use IDCAMS until then.

Thanks Robert and Anuj.

Thanks Anuj - DITTO has helped but it does not work in Production.

You're welcome.

You should ask this to your support, however, my educated guess is that by "it does not work in Production" -- you actually meant that you're not allowed to use DITTO in prod to view/edit VSAMs and if so - that's a usual settings most of the shops follow. If you're allowed to do so, you'll just disturb the prod processing, may be unknowingly.

At one shop, which was not financial data intensive - browse was allowed using DITTO, that's why I said view/edit in above statement and not browse.
