Hi,
z13 and z13s are different? Are they not just same and one is plural of other? Why such confusing names?

No, they are not the same. In the last few years, IBM has put out a larger and smaller version of their mainframes (zEC12 and zBC12, for example). The machines are architecturally the same, but have different configurations and hence different capacities. For example, a z13 can have up to 10 terabytes of memory while the z13s can have up to 4 terabytes of memory.

IBM's Redbooks are also good at describing their machines. Check out
https://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks.n ... .html?Open which is titled
IBM z13 and IBM z13s Technical Introduction and in particular Chapter 2
IBM z13 hardware overview and Chapter 3
IBM z13s hardware overview.
Anyone with the money can arrange to purchase a z13 or z13s, although certain features may be restricted geographically. However, the usual buyers of z13s will be smaller companies who don't need the capacity of a full z13 system.
