Hi,

I have started a topic viewtopic.php?f=35&t=2341 but it is ended like this:
topic locked...
shifting to useless speculations on wages and career opportunities

frankly questions like this one are just a waste of time for everybody and belong to the category
topics not to be discussed on a technical forum
It could be a good discussion for some of us who are looking for their careers now and are young in age. Can not the topic be reopened for discussion?

Broadly speaking, wage and career opportunity discussions are probably NOT suitable topics for a forum. Wages vary considerably from country to country and employment opportunities do too. Furthermore, the individual's skill set is VASTLY more important in determining wages (and career opportunities) than anything else. Companies are aware that the mainframe people that have been keeping their systems running for the last 50 years are retiring, and there's a lot that different companies do to reduce the impact of that "brain drain". There are fewer mainframes around than 30 years ago, but they are still used extensively by a lot of companies so choosing a mainframe career is not an automatic thumbs down, even today.
