Intel i7 6th Generation versus Intel i7 5th Generation processors.
Hi,
I have looking forward to purchase a new laptop for some time now. I had been using DELL Laptop for long and happy about their services in India. Not a great fan of Apple. Away from all this, I have been pondering what is the difference between Intel i7 6th Generation and Intel i7 5th Generation processors. You search the internet on this - and you are flooded with responses of varied explanation.
Anyone of you has a first hand experience with such a dilemma?

I am currently using Dell OptiPlex for some "Hardcore" programming and OptiPlex machines are one among the best in market ... I have i7 with 16 gb RAM and that is good enough to do lot of things side by side
If you are going for laptop I would suggest to go for Ubuntu as OS ( If the purpose is programming ) or mac
If the purpose is not for programming get any configuration

Two reasons:enrico-sorichetti wrote:any reason for it, or is just that You prefer pearsNot a great fan of Apple.
[ol][li]First, the configuration it provides (processor and SSD capacity) is way too expensive compared to other brands, with in the same price range.[/li]
[li]Second, the after-sale-support is pretty expensive in Indian market.[/li][/ol]
I'm also attracted towards 2-in-1 laptops.
Thanks,
Anuj

I'd prefer Desktop any day over laptops but with rented apartment moving desktop is not very comfortable. I looked at Dell Inspiron 13 7359 (Intel i7 6h Gen, SSD 256, 8 GB RAM, expandable to 32 GB) and find it as a nice machine but Dell machine heats up like barbeque as they grow old. And this thread came up when, shopkeeper offered Intel i7 5h Gen, SSD 256, 8 GB RAM at a lower price!Pandora-Box wrote:I am currently using Dell OptiPlex for some "Hardcore" programming and OptiPlex machines are one among the best in market ... all depends from what point of view You look at itFirst, the configuration it provides (processor and SSD capacity) is way too expensive compared to other brands, with in the same price range
if You look at consumer class pc I agree on that
but if You look at the professional line of DELL and LENOVO for example
the prices are aligned - the difference is a few % points
and frankly - for a ease of use, relialability and life duration
an APPLE falls in the topmost range
I have been a apple user for more than ten years
and never had any problems
remember also that APPLE software is NO CHARGE
operating system, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and development,
both for personal and business use.
and system setup is transparent to the user ,
last week I reinstalled from scratch my Imac because I had installed a larger SSD
( I have also the virtual disks for two linux and one window VMware machines )
powered on the router, powered on the printer, installed El Capitan
and at the end everything worked,
the system discovered the printer and installed the appropriate drivers.
and configured the network
just speaking of consumer class machines
not long ago a friend of mine got hold of two laptops
with consecutive serial numbers, and inside
they were completely different, memory chips, and parts of the motherboard !
frankly the storage capacity need is much overrated
and storage is used to keep lots of useless data
take for example pictures
before the age of digital cameras You would think twice and shoot once
now how many useless photos do You have in Your photo library?
cheers

I agree to most of the points you have made in your post enrico and would not argue much on them. But the cost factor does prevail. I have almost purchased the Dell Inspiron 7359 13.3" but stopped, keeping your post in mind. Looks like I'll spend some more days to zero-in the final gadget!
You seem to control my decision from Italy!

Hello Anuji
it was never my intention to influence Your decisions
I was talking from direct experience ,
furthermore my comment were aimed at the general public
especially for the point of putting in the same basket pc belonging to different classes
anyway any professional class machine is not cheap
and I have always had IBM/Lenovo machines
( even if with a huge discount when I was an IBM employee -
half price at the beginning much less at the end )
I switched to APPLE later on
in Italy for a few years APPLE resellers had an agreement with a personal loan company
to finance sales without charging any interest.
that' how I bought my first macbook ( the white one with a Power PC processor )
fastest thing around even if in winter You would not need any heating in the room
right now my desktop is IMac 27" ( mid 2010 )
intel core i7 2.93 ghz ( quad core ) with 16Gb of memory and a 512gb ssd
it should last for a few years!
