IBM utilities documentation/manuals
IBM utilities documentation/manuals
Hi all,
There are lot of useful utility in SYS1.LINKLIB and is there a single place/document where we can find the documentation on the utilities present there like the purpose and method of execution.
If anyone of you have any links please let me know or also any pointers will be helpful.
Thanks

Re: SYS1.LINKLIB utility documentation
pretty generic question/approach
what happened when You googled for IBM utilities manuals ?
to arrive for example at
http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/ ... /CCONTENTS
and anyway what has the question to do with COBOL ?
topic moved

When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,
so that I am sure that the information requested can be reached with a very small effort

Re: SYS1.LINKLIB utility documentation
Hi Enrico,
Thanks.. The Manual you gave me contains the documentation of utilities I agree .. But I am looking for documentation on utilities like AOPBATCH ( Which could be used for delay in JCL) and other routines or utilities apart from that there are in LINKLIB ..
Also Enrico I apologies for what I did by posting in wrong forum

Re: IBM utilities documentation/manuals
pretty stupid/primitive approach...But I am looking for documentation on utilities like AOPBATCH ( Which could be used for delay in JCL)
if something goes wrong what makes You think that a delay will make it right
if You want to waste everybody' s time
You must ask Your support for the additional products installed IBM and NOT IBM
and look at the manuals for each of them.
( supposition )
if You are the TWS specialist why should/would You care about DB2/IMS/CICS utilities
anyway the topics looks like searching for a requirement to satisfy a solution
cheers

Re: IBM utilities documentation/manuals
IF the program is for general use it will be documented in the relevant manual e.g. TWS utilities in the TW manuals, compiling and linking/binding in the relevan language's user guide etc. If they are not documented then they are probably not for use by anyone outside of the OS or IBM.

Apologies all for wasting your time...
This post was just in intention of learning if we have one single place or documentation of the common useful utilities across the shops

Re: IBM utilities documentation/manuals
It is not a waste of time to learn something. And you have learned (hopefully) that there is no single source of documentation for all "utilities". If you focus on SYS1.LINKLIB to the exclusion of other libraries, you will not understand very much about your site -- most sites place third-party software (from companies like Phoenix, CA, Compuware, among others) into separate libraries and make them accessible through the LINKLIST. At such a site, File Aid (for example) may be a great tool but you would not EVER see File Aid in SYS1.LINKLIB. So limiting your learning to SYS1.LINKLIB may cause you to miss up to 90% of all available tools at your site.

Re: IBM utilities documentation/manuals
my reference to wasting time was not to the time spent answering
but to the time wasted researching/reading about something You will never/marginally need to know about
