Hi,

I will joining a team at my office where they are called as "Capacity Planning Team" on mainframes. This is a new assignment for me though I had been familiar about application proramming on mainframes. I reached to the members in new team but I don't understand the terminologies they are using such as SMF, RMF, soft capping and har capping... where can I learn about these terms and specifically how can I learn about capacity planning on mainframe, please help.

I agree -- you need some training. Without the training, you need to look at the MVS bookshelf and specifically at the Planning: Workload Management and System Management Facilities (SMF) manuals; there is also an entire bookshelf on RMF. Capacity planning falls under the systems support umbrella and is quite different than applications development or support. Capacity planning also requires you understand a lot about performance measurement on mainframes -- you'll need to learn about sites such as http://www.mxg.com, http://www.watsonwalker.com, http://www.share.org for more information.
