Hi,

What smf record should i understand as I plan to start exploring the area of cpapcity planning. Please guide.

You need to understand that dealing with a single SMF record type may not provide you much understanding. For capacity and performance, the 70 through 79 records can all be helpful. However, the 70 and 72 are -- perhaps -- the most useful from the capacity standpoint. Of course, if your site is having problems with paging, you would want to look at the type 71 records (and so forth). Type 70 gives you processor data and type 72 gives you workload and storage data so they typically would be considered first (but not exclusively) when dealing with capacity issues.

And if we need to see that the given infrastructure is capable of dealing with more number of transactions or not then what should be the course of action?

You need to figure out how many transactions are being done now and what resources are required to process those transactions. That will tell you if there is a need to expand the system. Look at the 70 and 72 type records.
