ATMs use COBOL?

HI,

I see many of the Blogs and web sites telling that COBOL is used in ATMs. Is it really so? As far as I know, ATM makes use of embedded system, is COBOL on those systems also?

Does anyone have an experience working with any such system?

In order to process a transaction, the ATM has to connect to a database that contains your account information. That database is, more times than not, located on a mainframe and accessed through a COBOL program (often running on CICS). The actual ATM machine would most likely not use COBOL (although I've never worked on ATM systems and have no idea what they really are coded in).

Are the HP Servers or 24x7 servers are part of this ATM technology?

The actual machines are typically NCR or some other vendor; they connect to some continuously available server (which could be HP or Dell or Lenovo or whatever) and eventually to a database.
