Identify high MIPS consuming Jobs.

Post by sachin12 »

Hi all,

Is there a way to find out the list of all high MIPS consuming Jobs in SAR? Or in general, is there some other way of knowing this?

Thanks,

the info about resource consumption ( cpu, main storage, I/O ) can be extracted from the SMF data
cheers

When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,
so that I am sure that the information requested can be reached with a very small effort 8-)

If your site has RMF running, you can use the RMF III reports.

Thanks Enrico. But reading SMF records is a tedious job, how can I learn about the tools whic can help me to read SMF records?

Thanks Robert. I looked at http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledge ... MFwar.html and I am reading to undestand it all.

In general, your best bet is to talk to your site support group. RMF can provide access to CPU usage data (RMF III can do so essentially real-time), SMF can provide access to CPU usage data (typically only for historical data, though -- SMF records are generally written at intervals or when certain events occur such as step termination), and monitor packages (such as MXI, OMEGAMON, MAINVIEW) can provide CPU usage data (some real-time, some historical). Whether or not RMF or a monitor package is installed at your site is a question only someone working at your site can answer; they are not required and cost money to install. SMF is almost always available, but the site can pick and choose what to record so it is possible that your site is not recording the SMF data on CPU usage -- again, someone working at your site would have to tell you.
