Hi,

What is multiple positioning in IMS DB?

Does it require some special Database set-up or programming algorithm?

Thanks.

Multi positioning is an option where by IMS maintains a separate position on each hierarchical path. When more than one PCBs refer to the same DBD, it is called Multi positioning. And to say it in very layman terms - when you're using 2 different PCBs for the same database -- it is called multiple positioning.

Here is a link from IBM on Advantages of using multiple positioning.

Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Anuj

No, Not really - you need to decide as a programmer if you might need multiple PCBs for the same program and that's it.

Thank you very much Anuj.

This is very precise and to the point answer. I had been confusing myself by asking around and heard as more definitions than the people I asked about it.
