Need suggestion for the anti-spam questions.

Post by Anuj Dhawan » Mon Mar 28, 2016 1:53 pm

Hi,

Today a user named SEOKavya has registered on the board. She (going by the name) said in one of tail-gated reply that she is an SEO expert. I have deleted that post but that leaves me thinking if I need to make the questions asked, at the time of registration, little more complex so that such users can be stopped. Unless she is moved to SEO, after spending some time in to mainframes, answer to the questions asked at the time of registration, should not be known to a non-mainframe person. But I think they are "googleable'.

Said all that, if you have some suggestion for such question please share them in this thread and I'll include them in the registration process.

Thanks,
Anuj

Get their credit card number and bill them if they mis-behave. That should sort the spammers from the genuine.

As of now they are pretty basic - listed below:

[ol][li]How many Divisions are there in COBOL Program?[/li]
[li]What is the Full Form of JCL?[/li]
[li]COMP and COMP-3 variable declarations are used in which mainframe language?[/li]
[li]What's the popular transaction processing(OLTP) software in IBM Mainframes?[/li]
[li]What is the format of comment statement in JCL?[/li][/ol]

They appear randomly, when one registers on the site. You can try to register again and can see how they appear.

Thanks,
Anuj

Just asking them for the cc number will put them off - and other trolls

not me - unless they started charging me for saying 'use the code tags' or 'post in the correct part of the forum'!!
Of course, not everyone has a credit card/Paypal account or whatever.

Probably for a new person some might not know the answer why not have a image and number check?

That will stop the robots but not "human-spammers".  I thought to have mainframe related questions so that we can have more members with similar bent of minds.

A bit late to rejoin the party but...

Once registered is there a way to prevent posting until they have visited the forum rules? I do not mean just clicked on and then clicked out again but spent enough time to actually read the thing. To this end would it be possible to make each rule a topic and they all have to be at least clicked on? The topic title could be the rule and the body the reason for the rule.

With some effort that might be possible but would not that piss them off? Also, how would that help to stop spammers?

Thanks,
Anuj

would not that piss them off?
They would only get pissed off once and not get slammed for being ignorant of the rules. Everyone else gets pissed off every time someone posts in a way that could have been avoided if the rules had been read.

As for the spammers, it could deter them. They just want quick access to post their spam and then get out again. I doubt if too many of them would go to the bother of clicking on every rule just so that they then get the permission to post.
