When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,

Using the numbers given then it is sort of logical depending on interpretation. I have 2 interpretations and both come up with the same answer. But if, for instance, the first item was 4 + 3 my 2 interpretations give different answers: 15 and 19.

OK I will bite ...

lets disregard the stupidity of the plus sign ...

algorithmic solution based on the current line ONLY

Code: Select all

n * ( n + 1 ) ==> f

Code: Select all

4 * ( 4 + 1 ) ==> 20
5 * ( 5 + 1 ) ==> 30
6 * ( 6 + 1 ) ==> 42
7 * ( 7 + 1 ) ==> 56
9 * ( 9 + 1 ) ==> 90
a wysiwyg solution based on the current and the previous line

Code: Select all

4 <+> 4                ==> 20
5 <+> 5 ==> 20 + 5 + 5 ==> 30
6 <+> 6 ==> 30 + 6 + 6 ==> 42
7 <+> 7 ==> 42 + 7 + 7 ==> 56
9 <+> 9 ==> 56 + 9 + 9 ==> 74
so there is NO right answer

cheers

So the question itself stands wrong? No correct answer? :)
