What is SMTP?

Hi,

Can someone please explain me about SMTP? Is it same in mainrames and personal-computers? Are SFTP, FTP and SMTP relaeted to each other somewhere?

SMTP, or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, is a method for transferring emails from one system to another. As such, it exists on mainframes, servers, PCs (if configured for it), and so forth. SFTP, FTP, SMTP are all functions of TCP/IP (the protocol underlying most Internet communications these days).
