What is difference between SPUFI and QMF?

Hi,

What is difference between SPUFI and QMF?

My answer: They are two different products but do the same thing.

If they are doing same thing, why would we have both of them?

I could not answer that...does anyone know about it?

SPUFI executes dynamic SQL. QMF does also, but allows the output to be formatted, and for the SQL to be embedded in a simple procedural language

You would like to use QMF when you are doing some professional work and want to generate good looking reports out of DB2. The reports can have optional Headers and Footers to make sense of that data in report for the end users or to say business users.

SPUFI, is a DB2 programmer's tool. It is usually used in between while writing a program to see the functionality and the validity of SQL query. And that's the reason, I believe, using SPUFI we can execute mutliple queries at one time.

You should also note the QMF is an add on product while SPUFI is freeely available at every shop which has IBM DB2.


Just a side note - DSNTEP2 is usually called as 'Batch SPUFI'. DNSTEP2 program is written in the PL/I programming language. Because DSNTEP2 is an application program, and the PL/I source code is provided with DB2, a knowledgeable PL/I programmer can easily modify the code however something of that sort is not true with QMF.

Did you look in the manual? I believe, although this was over 25 years ago, that we ran all our QMF as batch.
