Why certify?

You can see that certification takes some effort. Is it worth it? Depending on how you define the question, your answer may involve increased self-satisfaction, greater value to your employer, or higher personal productivity. Many IT professionals key on the financial benefits. Some do it for the challenge of demonstrating their knowledge, or for the inner satisfaction that comes from mastery of the material. Whether a "Certified 'xyz' developer" is better than one that is not certified is, to say the least, highly debatable. What we can say for sure is that if you certify, you'll end up knowing more about xyz than you did when you started...

Said that, though opinions vary...

Also in India, it's tough to find a Mainframe Job which will allow you to work on every technology for Mainframes. Certification gives you the wings to learn that and get your employee to trust you to give 'entry level' work for the technologies you got the certifications for...
