Issue a Print from a CICS program.

Post by S Dayal »

Hi,

Could you please advise if we can issue a print to a local Mainframe printer by a CICS program? Is there some special procedure to do that and do I need to define the printer to CICS region?

You have a lot of "fuzzy" terms -- what does "issue a print" mean? What does "local Mainframe printer" mean? Is the printer attached to the terminal or standalone?

In general, CICS can send data to printers. The printer must be defined to CICS and there are other restrictions -- read the Customization manual for details.

Hi Robert,

"issue a print" means printing a document. "Local mainframe printer" means a printer which is used for our company and not at the customer place. I think it is standalone.

Thanks for the document but it's too big to understand it all...

then go to someone in your company who does understand it. Actually, he should be able to answer your question off the top of his head and advise you on the correct process for your shop.

Sorry, but we are not going to be able to help you then. If you lack the energy / time / willpower to actually read the manual that is designed to help you in the precise situation you are in, then we cannot provide you the missing resources. There are a number of ways that printers can be defined to CICS (such as a terminal printer or as a TDQ for example) and we have no idea of what processes and methods your site uses.
