Where is the Java 8 for z/390?

Post by demecarv »

Simple as declared in subject of my question is: where is Java 8 for z/390? Someone may answer http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/z/os/zos/tools/java/ but please click on it and you will see "...version 7...". I have developed two entire application over Java 8 and now I need to deploy them in Mainframe z/390. I am very limited in Mainframe and I wasn't expected to be an issue to install Java 8 in z/390. Firstly, I looked at Oracle technetwork and I noted that there isn't a version aimed for Unix. Well, there is for Linux but I understand I can't use it.

Very new -- page date is January 8, 2016.

I found this by going to the page you referenced, clicking on the Java 8 SDK link, then opening the See More SDK Versions drop-down arrow. z/OS tends to run behind the times on Java -- probably because IBM wants a stable z/OS.

Thanks, Robert. I have new doubts related to "non-SMP/E format" versus "Shopz" options but I will open new question.
