Bring back the earlier version of dataset.

Post by Prijot Singh »

Hi,

Do we have some TSO command which can help to bring back earlier 'image' of a dataset. One of my junior team member has changed the values in this dataset for testing. Now it looses all the necessary testing conditions. One option is to create all of them again or keep back ups in future. But then some times those back are just left and lie around for long. But those are future cautions, as of now I am thnking if there is a TSO command retrieve the prior-self of the dataset? Or there is something else which can be done?

It depends; what, if any, backups are being run?

Well, as you have no backups and you want to use a "TSO command" you will have to direct those commands to the "MAJIK" environment. Have you referered to the TSO commands manual? Or did you mean an ISPF command?

Consult your site support group. They may -- or may not -- have a backup of your data set. However, the mainframe is not magic -- if you want to be able to restore to a previous version of a data set, YOU have to create a backup of that version to be able to restore to. If the back up is out there for months -- or years -- so what? When you need it, you need it -- period. Hopefully you are learning a valuable lesson from all this.

Try the TSO command HRECOVER. For options, try 'HELP HRECOVER', or 'TSO HELP RECOVER'.

mmcrew, if the site is not running HSM, the HRECOVER command won't do anything.

When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,
so that I am sure that the information requested can be reached with a very small effort 8-)
