Re: What is the best way to learn mainframe?
One way might be to start with some book on subject of your choice. You might pick up something from Murach Publication and start reading it. They have quite a good number of books on Mainframes and they write it very user friendly. Anuj has started a section here for the pointers to such books, how...

Re: Is it mandatory to use DCLGEN?
DCLGEN, in a very basic sense, is just a (COBOL) copybook equivalent of a table structure. You can even write COPY some-dclgen and that will work. But as DCLGEN is generated using DB2 it is usually included using INCLUDE DCLGEN-name, just to "show" that this piece of information belong to ...

Re: Should we add some quizzes on the Board on M/F Technolog

I think reply from Robert here: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=579 can also help you if you're looking for the lengths of different variables in the copybook.

You can add a section on the links and documents for Natural /Adabas, if you can manage to get a general material, not covered under copyright, on them.

This is an excellent system you've put-in on this Forum! Loved the way it shows the "click to view votes". This will be great.
Apart from that - +1 for "PC General Help Forum".

Re: Are STROBE and EXPLAIN serve the same purpose?
As has been said - STROBE is performance monitoring tool and not used for only DB2. This page give you more information on it: http://www.compuware.com/en_us/mainframe-solutions/products/strobe-mainframe-performance-monitoring.html EXPALIN, actually is not a "Tool" - it's a "DB2 state...

This is a good initiative and sounds like to sahpe up now. Probably you can disucuss a very trivial topic, though used in a very confused manner: "Mainframe Computers" and "Personal Computers"? Just a thought.
