A Young Man, His Father and The Car.

A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and inquired of his father as to when they could discuss his use of the car. His father said he'd make a deal with his son, "You bring your grades up from a C to a B average, study your Bible a little, and get your hair cut. Then we'll talk about t...

View VSAM without file-aid?

Hi,
Is there any way to view the vsam dataset without the use of a tool like file aid or file manager? I mean if some shop does not have file aid or file manager, is it possible to see the contents of a vsam dataset?

RMF reports shows CPU more than 100%.

Hi, I am not a performance person and have not worked on such activities eough and my question might be trivial. I looked at one fo the summary report with RMF. The reports are on 20-minutes intervals. If we add the values of CPU busy field for this interval the result is over the 100%.  Can anyone ...

FTP file with packed decimals.

Hi, I have transferred a file from mainframe to a notepad. When I opened the notepad, I see all junk in the packed decimal fields. I am not sure how can I get it not to become junk, so I am thinking of writing a cobol program. But when we change the packed decimals to numeric displayable data the fi...

Re: Open a new window in ISPF with a key stoke.

Since ISPF has screens and NOT windows,  the simple answer to your question is that it cannot be done.  Does not hitting the F2 (PF2) key not split your screen? If you are talking about opening a new 3270 session with one key, that would depend on your emulator.  But you would be starting a new con...

Can we override IF statement in a PROC.

Hi Is it possible to overide IF condition in a PRC. For example see this, //CHK IF ((STEP060.RC = 0 OR STEP060.RC = 0011) ) THEN //STEP100 EXEC PGM=IEBGENER //SYSUT1 DD DSN=ABC.EFG.DAILY(+1),DISP=SHR //SYSUT2 DD DSN=ABC.EFG.RECORDS,DISP=MOD I need this step to be executed irrespective of condition c...

Thank you William. Really thankful to your great explanation! 01 PIC X(50). 05 FLAG-ON VALUE "ROSES ARE RED, VIOLETS ARE BLUE". 05 FLAG-OFF VALUE "SOME POEMS RHYME, OTHERS DON;T". The point of the exercise is that all you have to know in the program is the references to the condi...

will not it be confusing as FILLER is not a specific variable-name?

What is the use of level number 88, in COBOL?

HI, I've been asked this that what is the use of level number 88? How to use in program and how can we use it differently in different programs, give examples. I answered that, level 88 variables are "condition names". They are used mostly to test conditions. Can someone help me to get an ...
