Re: Why VSAM initialization is required for COBOL?
The whole premise is rubbish. There is one "problematic" situation: a KSDS that is opened for input. If that KSDS has never contained data since it was DEFINEd, then you will get a file-status of 35 on the OPEN INPUT, and only OPEN INPUT, in COBOL. Now, if someone can explain the use of o...

Re: Any free SAS certificate is available?
If you are talking about certificates in SAS/Base and SAS/Advance I think there is no free official certification from SAS. They also don't provide any full free course. As Robert has said that's a paid thing, why should it come free? If your aim is to get an official certificate, the only way I ca...

Re: Hello Forum!
Hello Tanu and welcome to the Forums, As they say in Bengali - Āpani kēmana āchēna! :) It's nice to know that you want to learn more in this field. Actually, the very thought to have a will-to-learn is the first step to learn anything; if you have that half the battle is already won. Said that, the...

So every program written in any language for mainframe, tries to read a newly created VSAM, it will have problems?

Perhaps that is the reason I could not find a free certificate. Thanks for your reply.Robert Sample wrote:SAS makes some pretty good money from certification, so I doubt you'll find many free ones out there.

Any free SAS certificate is available?
Hi,
I saw the thread for SAS cert, Information on SAS certificates required.
I also looked at the link in the post from enrico-sorichetti but I could not find an information on free SAS certification. If some one can help me to locate a free SAS certification it'll be very helpful.

Why VSAM initialization is required for COBOL?
Hi,
Whenever we allocate a VSAM dataset using IDCAMS it is told to initialize the file before we can use it in a COBOL program. Why it is so, could anybody tell why this is required?
And if it is required why IDCAMS itself can not do this?

Hello Forum!
Hi,
I work in COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM and some more technologies. Most of the time I see people working in these technologies. How can we learn other technologies in mainframes? What is best way to learn something new in this field?
