Re: The Shepherd and the Consultant
The yuppie parked his car, whipped out his IBM Thinkpad and connected it to a cell phone, then he surfed to a NASA page on the internet where he called up a GPS satellite navigation system, scanned the area, and then opened up a database and an Excel spreadsheet with complex formulas. He sent an em...

Re: Define a VSAM file in Unix.
Thanks Robert. I know some unix so initially I was thiking about an ESDS dataset; I should have made it clear in my first post. So basically there is just no equivalent but the "sequential file for unix" is equivalent to ESDS and for that matter sequential files too, right? (QSAM) We are t...

Define a VSAM file in Unix.
Hi All,
I am new to UNIX and shell service. I would like to know if we can define a VSAM file in Unix? And it will work similar way as in zOS environment? If it is not so then what is equivalent to VSAM KSDS on UNIX side?

Re: Hello
Hello Nitin and welcome to the Forums, Learning some scripting language might help you further, however, it largely depends on how you want your career to be shaped up in future. If you are looking for consulting work - knowing processes defined under ITIL or CobIT might help while if you want to h...

Hello
Hi,
I'm Nitin. I had been working in to mainframe for some time. I know COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM and somewhat IMS. What are the areas I can focus to make a better career in this field, please let me know your views.

I executed two different step of IDCAMS with different qualifiers, not sure if it the best way to do it.

LISTCAT in IDCAMS.
HI, I am trying to do a specific IDCAMS LISTC. My catalog is as follows: I need to enlist some of the dataset following some nameing convention. For this, if with the LISTC LVL(XX.**.WW) I get: XX.YY.ZZ.WW XX.Y1.Z1.WW XX.Y3.Z3.WW which is fine as the target datasets in the catalog are: XX.YY.ZZ.WW X...

Re: How to find that last reference date of a VSAM dataset?
Site suppport is not that friendly. They need a business justification for that, as this department is with different vendor and we as competitor won't get this easily and have to it all our own. So there is just no other way round?

How to find that last reference date of a VSAM dataset?
Hi, Is there a way to find the last reference date of a VSAM dataset? Possibly SMF data and/or DCollect will help here, but apart from them is there any way out? I tried with LISTCAT but LISTCAT does not display last reference date and as a programmer I do not have access to SMF or DCOLL data. So wh...
